Macedonian government

WIDELY HELD BELIEF

The illegal dumping of waste is a health and environmental hazard.

CASE NARRATIVE

Issue and Opponent: Macedonia is frequently among the worst polluters of all countries in the world. Particularly within Skopje City, there are countless illegal landfills where citizens carelessly dump their garbage. The opponents of this campaign are both the citizens who contribute to illegal dumping and the government for its lack of a response.
Dilemma Action: Protestors mapped over 50 locations of illegal garbage disposal sights and signing of 16 places across Macedonia where people dispose of large amounts of heavy garbage and construction waste. Signs were created drawing attention to the dumpsites, putting pressure on the government to act.
Outcome: At least 800 sites have been cleaned, including one in the center of Skopje.
